Microwave Air Fryer Combo

Microwave Air Fryer Basket and Accessories: What Fits

There is no universal basket for a microwave air fryer. Baskets, racks and trays are made for one model and one cooking mode, so buy the part the company sells for your model. Skip paper liners: none of the four manuals we read clears them for air frying, and two bar paper outright.

The short version

Buy the basket the company sells for your model. We found no universal one, and manuals warn against other accessories. Most combos already include a basket or crisper pan. Skip paper liners unless your own manual allows them: Cuisinart's AMW-90 and the UK edition of Ninja's MW101 guide rule out paper in air fry. Buying new? The Sharp SMC0985KS documents its basket and pan.

What is on this page

Search for a microwave air fryer basket and you will mostly find parts for other appliances. A combo is not a basket air fryer with a door. What is safe in one mode can be wrong in the next.

Sharp SMC0985KS

The smallest footprint we could confirm on a company's own product sheet.

Why it fits here: If you are still choosing a combo, this one lists its basket, pan and turntable on Sharp's sheet, and says all three are dishwasher safe.

Which part goes in which mode?

Panasonic's NN-CD87 manual has the clearest chart. It shows why one basket can't do everything.

ModeGlass trayEnamel trayWire rackBasket
MicrowaveYesNoNoNo
BroilYesYesYesNo
Air fryYesYesYesYes
ConvectionYesYesYesNo

On this model the basket is for air fry only. In Combo mode, never put a metal or aluminum container directly on the wire rack, or it can spark.

Other brands set other rules:

  • Breville BMO870. No metal containers in the microwave except the supplied accessories. No plates or dishes on the crisper pan.
  • Ninja MW101, UK edition. Use the glass basket with the crisper plate. The plate is microwave safe only when it sits in the basket.
  • Other models. Check your own manual. See metal and foil.

Can I use air fryer liners?

Liners are the accessory people ask about most. Their listings often name 5 to 8 qt baskets, which is the size of a basket air fryer, not a combo. Here is what the manuals say about paper.

ManualWhat it says
Cuisinart AMW-90No paper products in any mode but microwave
Ninja MW101, UK editionPaper is a material not to put in the unit, because of fire risk. We did not read the US guide
Panasonic NN-CD87Air fry column says no to paper towels and waxed paper. Parchment is not listed
Breville BMO870No paper products in combination mode. Liners are not addressed

We did not read the Sharp, Toshiba, GE or BLACK+DECKER manuals, so check yours. That is why we link no liners. The heater sits in the same box as your food. If your manual clearly allows parchment in air fry, follow its rules.

For less scrubbing, use the tray that came with your combo. Greasy residue is a common cause of smoke and smells. See the cleaning guide.

Which model has the best parts?

Sharp SMC0985KS. The basket, pan and 10.6 in turntable are dishwasher safe, says Sharp. We did not read its accessory section, so check it for liners and foil.

Panasonic HomeChef*. The sister model's manual is the most exact. It lists the basket, rack and both trays as parts to order. The copy we read points to Panasonic's Canadian shop, so ask Panasonic where US owners order.

Breville Combi Wave*. One pan for crisping and a trivet that lifts a dish for better air flow.

Ninja Crispi MW101*. The basket is glass, which Ninja describes as PFAS and PTFE free. The UK guide asks for two hands to handle it, and says hot glass must cool before it meets water.

What mistakes should I avoid?

  1. Buying a metal basket "for microwaves." Manuals limit metal by mode.
  2. Sizing by cubic feet. Measure your turntable or floor, the door opening and the height above the tray.
  3. Covering the rack with foil. Panasonic and Cuisinart both warn against it, because it can overheat the oven.
  4. Using parts from a used unit. Check they match the model number.
  5. Cooking on the turntable. Panasonic says to use only the glass tray made for that oven, and not to cook directly on it.

Still choosing a combo?

Which combo is yours?

Question 1

Where will it go?

This decides how you buy.

Get the company's part for the combo you own, with the model number in hand. Leave paper liners out unless your manual clears them. Buying new? Fit comes first, so read the size guide, then the best combos. The Sharp SMC0985KS suits small kitchens.

Quick questions

Is there a universal air fry basket for microwaves?

Not one we could find. Manuals tie the accessories to the oven. Panasonic warns that accessories it does not recommend may cause injury, and Ninja's UK guide warns about ones it does not recommend or sell. Ask the company for the matching part.

Can I use air fryer liners in a microwave air fryer?

Only if your own manual allows them. Cuisinart's AMW-90 manual bars paper products in every mode except microwave. The UK edition of Ninja's MW101 guide lists paper among things not to put in the unit. We read no manual that clears liners for air frying.

Can the air fry basket go in microwave mode?

Usually not, but check your model. Panasonic's NN-CD87 chart allows only the glass tray in microwave mode. Ninja's UK guide says the crisper plate is microwave safe only when it sits in the glass basket.

What comes with a microwave air fryer combo?

It varies. Sharp lists an air fry basket and a baking and roasting pan. Panasonic's NN-CD87 manual lists a glass tray, wire rack, enamel tray and air fry basket. Breville includes a Combi Crisp pan and a trivet. Check the box contents on the listing.

Where do I get a replacement air fry basket?

Start with the company. Panasonic's NN-CD87 manual lists the basket, rack and trays as parts you can order. Have the full model number from the label ready. If there is no part, ask the support line before you buy a look-alike.
