GE Microwave Air Fryer Combo: GCST10A1, JES1109 and Profile
For a GE countertop combo, buy the GCST10A1: 1.0 cu ft, 1,050 W and 11 7/8 in tall, says GE. The older JES1109RRSS is no longer made, says GE's own page. For above a stove, the GE Profile PVM9179 is a 1.7 cu ft over-the-range unit, and GE's page says the PVM9179SRSS is no longer made.

The short version
Buy the GE GCST10A1 for the counter: 1.0 cu ft and 1,050 W, says GE, with a crispy pan and tall rack for air fry. GE says the older JES1109RRSS is no longer made, so don't read its specs as the current model's. Take the GE Profile PVM9179 only to replace an over-the-range unit, after checking stock with a dealer, since GE says the PVM9179SRSS is no longer made.
GE Appliances calls itself "a Haier company" in the GCST10A1 warranty. Its product sheets group the lines as GE, GE Profile, Café and Monogram. Search results for GE combos mix countertop units with over-the-range and wall models, so first decide which type you need. Our brand overview puts GE next to the others. New to combos? Check the size rows. For the black GCST10A1WBB*, the seller says 20.59 × 15.59 × 12.52 in, while GE's sheet for the same family says 20.6 × 16.6 × 11 7/8 in. Both GE 4-in-1 listings also quote 13.98 × 9.49 × 13.23 in, far too small for this body. Plan with GE's figures.
What is the GCST10A1 like on the counter?
GE's product sheet gives 1,050 W and 1.0 cu ft, a stainless crisper pan for air fry, a child lock, plus auto and time defrost. The owner's manual adds what listings leave out:
- Air fry setup. Always use the crispy pan on top of the tall rack. Manual mode accepts 300 to 425°F, and the oven prompts you to flip. Menu mode has nine foods, each with a set serving size, such as 8 oz of fries.
- Racks and microwave. GE says not to use the racks when microwave cooking. Our page on metal and foil explains why this depends on mode and model.
- Space around it. GE recommends 3 in on each side, 3 in on top and 1 in at the rear, with nothing blocking the bottom. Keep the door front at least 3 in from the counter edge. See our clearance guide for how other brands differ.
- Circuit. GE's support page asks for a 120 V, individual, properly grounded branch circuit with a 15 or 20 amp breaker or time-delay fuse. Read our page on circuits and amps too.
- Not for cabinets as it comes. The manual says it is not meant to be built into a cabinet without a GE Appliances installation accessory.
What about the retired JES1109RRSS?
Many searches still name this model, and it still turns up in older articles. GE's page says it is no longer made. Its stated size matches the GCST10A1, but we found nothing from GE calling one the successor. So don't assume every detail carries over, and buy by model number. If you own one, GE still links the owner's manual from that page. Our guide to finding your manual covers the rest.
What about the GE Profile over the range?
The GE Profile PVM9179* is a 1.7 cu ft over-the-range unit with air fry and 950 W (IEC-705 procedure), says GE's sheet. It has a three-speed, 300 CFM vent fan (CFM is how much air it moves). It is 29 7/8 in wide, needs a 66 in minimum mounting height and ties into venting or a recirculating filter. Many people buy this type from a dealer or big-box store, since it has to be mounted and vented. GE's page for the PVM9179SRSS says it is no longer made, and our price lookup returned nothing for this listing, so ask about stock, condition and warranty. See over-the-range microwaves.
What are the strengths and weak spots?
Why it works
- A full owner's manual and product sheet from GE for the GCST10A1
- 1,050 W, the highest figure among the 1.0 cu ft models in our comparison
- Named best value by Good Housekeeping, without scores
Where it falls short
- 11 7/8 in tall plus GE's recommended top space needs a check under low cabinets
- Sizes on listings disagree with GE's sheet
- Several similar model numbers and an older model still in circulation
The GCST10A1 manual states a one-year warranty on the oven and names GE Appliances, a Haier company, as the warrantor. It lists the tall rack, short rack and crispy pan as parts of the oven. Ask GE or a dealer about replacements, and check the seller's terms too.
What are the alternatives?

Quick questions
Is the GE JES1109RRSS still available?
GE's own product page says this model is no longer made, so any stock you find is what remains. GE still links its owner's manual there. The GCST10A1 has the same size inside and the same stated outside size, but we found no GE statement calling it the replacement. Compare the two by model number.
How much space does the GE GCST10A1 need around it?
GE's owner's manual recommends 3 in on each side, 3 in on top, 1 in at the rear and nothing blocking the bottom. It also says to keep the front of the door at least 3 in back from the counter edge. At 11 7/8 in tall, that adds up to 14 7/8 in (computed), under a common 18 in cabinet gap. Measure yours first.
How do I air fry in a GE microwave?
On the GCST10A1, put food on the crispy pan, set the pan on the tall rack and press Air Fry. Pressing once selects manual mode, where you choose 300 to 425°F and a time. Pressing twice opens the menu of nine foods, such as fries and fresh wings. Flip the food when prompted, and keep the racks out of plain microwave cooking.
Can a GE countertop combo be built in?
Not as it comes. The GCST10A1 manual says it is not meant to be built into a cabinet without a GE Appliances installation accessory, and the product sheet says it is designed for a countertop. We didn't find an accessory named for this model, so ask GE before you plan a cabinet spot.
Does GE make a Café or Profile microwave with air fry?
The GE Profile PVM9179 is an over-the-range model with air fry, says GE's product sheet. Café is another GE Appliances line, but we haven't read a Café air fry product sheet, so we make no claims about it. Dealers can confirm current models and arrange installation.
