- Are Microwave Air Fryer Combos Worth It? Who Should Buy OneBuy one if you want a single appliance instead of two and it fits your space. It reheats, defrosts and air-fries, one job at a time. Expect more cleanup than a plain microwave, and check the manual for the space it needs around it. Already own a microwave you like and only want crisp food? A basket air fryer is the simpler buy.
- Can an Air Fryer Replace a Microwave? No, and Here Is What a Combo SolvesNo. An air fryer can handle fries, wings, pizza and many leftovers, but it cannot fully replace a microwave for soup, liquids, steaming or defrosting, as Whirlpool also says. If you rarely do those jobs, going without a microwave can work. If you do them often and want one appliance, a microwave air fryer combo covers both.
- Does the Ninja Crispi Have a Microwave? Only the MW101 DoesOnly one does. The Ninja Crispi Microwave MW101, launched on 16 July 2026, microwaves food. The FN101 and AS101 are glass air fryers without that part. Their glass containers are microwave-safe, which means the glass can go into a microwave you already own, not that the air fryer is a microwave. Check the model number before you buy.
- Can You Put Foil or Metal in a Microwave Air Fryer? It depends on the mode and the model, so check your manual's cookware chart. In microwave mode, metal is generally out and foil is at most for small shielding. In air fry, brands differ: Panasonic's chart says no foil and no pans, GE recommends metal pans, and Ninja's UK guide says no. Never line racks or the inside with foil.
- What Size Microwave Air Fryer for a Family of Five?We found no reliable servings-per-cubic-foot figure, so choose by tray. For five, start with the biggest turntable here: Toshiba's 1.5 cu ft ML-EC42P at 13.6 in. That is only about 20% more tray area than a 12.4 in turntable (computed). Air frying works best in a single layer, so expect batches, and check that your counter is deep enough.
- Will a Microwave Air Fryer Fit Under My Cabinets?Probably, if you pick a low model. Add the body height to the top space in your manual, then compare with your own measured gap. The Sharp SMC0985KS is 11.38 in tall, says Sharp, leaving about 6.6 in under a common 18 in gap. Panasonic's sister-model manual adds up to 19.5 in, so check your manual and never block the vents.
- Is an Air Fryer Healthier Than a Microwave?Neither appliance is healthier in itself. The FDA says microwaving does not reduce nutrition any more than conventional cooking, and federal rules limit radiation leakage. Air frying browns food, which can form acrylamide in starchy foods, though the National Cancer Institute finds no consistent link to cancer in people. The FDA's best advice is about your overall eating plan.
- Can You Microwave and Air Fry at the Same Time? Not as two separate jobs, because one oven space runs one program. Some models blend microwaves with convection or broil heat in a set mode, like Panasonic's Combo or GE's Combi. Ninja's FusionCrisp and Sharp's multi-stage cooking run one step after another. None of the documents we read describes air fry and microwave running together.
- Can You Make Microwave Popcorn in an Air Fryer?Don't put the bag in an air fryer. We found no brand that approves it, and GE's cookware chart says no to paper products in air fry. Microwave popcorn belongs in microwave mode. A combo can do that, with the racks out and a cool tray. For popcorn without a microwave, use loose kernels in a pan on the stove.
- Does an Air Fryer Use More Electricity Than a Microwave?Per minute, usually yes. Panasonic's sister-model manual lists 1,110 W for its microwave and 1,350 W for its heater, and air fry jobs tend to run longer. We found no measured food-by-food comparison. For a real answer, multiply your model's input watts by the hours it runs, then divide by 1,000 to get kWh.
