Small Microwave Air Fryer Combo: What Really Fits a Small Kitchen
For a small kitchen, buy the Sharp SMC0985KS. It is 19.6 in wide and 15.77 in deep on Sharp's own product sheet, the smallest size we could confirm from a brand. Some listings show smaller bodies, like the BLACK+DECKER ES9P032NA, but those sizes come from the listing only. Expect 0.9 cu ft and a 900 W microwave.

The short version
Buy the Sharp SMC0985KS: 0.9 cu ft, 900 W, and 19.6 × 15.77 × 11.38 in per Sharp's product sheet. Very shallow counter and a tight budget? Look at the BLACK+DECKER ES9P032NA, listed at 14.5 in deep, though a third-party summary says 15.55 in. Any small combo has a smaller turntable, so measure your favorite plate too.

A small kitchen doesn't need a tiny appliance so much as the right few inches. The counter, the cabinet above and the plate you use every night decide this. "Compact" on a listing tells you little.

Try your own numbers. The checker compares outside sizes only, and we have no manual figures for the space these small models need.
Enter your space and we’ll show which models fit. We use the sizes each brand publishes. It also needs some air around it, so check the manual too.
Many kitchens have about 18 in here, but measure yours to be sure.

What should I know about each model?
Sharp SMC0985KS: our pick. Sharp's sheet gives 19.6 × 15.77 × 11.38 in outside and an inside of 13.39 × 14.17 × 7.76 in. You get a 900 W microwave, 1450 W for air fry, convection, roast and bake, plus a dishwasher-safe air fry basket and baking pan. Multi-stage cooking can run up to three functions in a row, such as defrost, cook and crisp. It is sold as a 3-in-1, and our 3-in-1 guide explains the label.
The weak points are clear. The turntable is 10.6 in, so measure your plates. The sheet lists a 120 V, 20 A power source and 15 A of consumption current, so check your circuit and the manual. Leave wiring questions to an electrician. Sharp gives 1 year of warranty, plus 4 more years on the part that does the microwaving, as a part only. It is in the budget price class.
BLACK+DECKER ES9P032NA: the shallowest listing. The BLACK+DECKER ES9P032NA* is listed at 19.5 × 14.5 × 11.4 in, the smallest here if that depth holds. It lists microwave, air fryer, combi, bake and roast, with a 900 W microwave, in the budget class. We could only confirm its size from listings. A third-party manual summary says 15.55 in deep, a full inch more. We can't say which is right, so plan with 15.55 in. If 14.5 in is what makes it fit, check the listing and the box before you commit.
Commercial Chef CHMF9BG: the lowest and narrowest. The Commercial Chef CHMF9BG* is listed at 19 × 16.8 × 11.1 in, with air frying up to 450°F as listed. It is deeper than the Sharp, and also budget class. We have only the listing and have read no manual, so it is an option to check, not a recommendation.
Toshiba OptiChef Basic: inverter at 0.9 cu ft. The Toshiba OptiChef Basic* is listed at 20.59 × 16.34 × 11.81 in, with inverter technology and 27 auto menus. It is about an inch wider than the Sharp and half an inch deeper. An inverter gives better control at low power, which helps with softening or defrosting, but it is no promise of even heating. Mid-range class, listing-only data.
Toshiba MASTER 6-in-1 (Renewed): narrow, not new. Listed at 19.5 × 17.6 × 11.5 in. It is renewed, not new, so check what warranty applies. It is narrow but deep, so it helps most where width is the problem. The watt figure in its listing isn't microwave power, so don't compare it with the others. Our Toshiba overview covers the wider range.
What should I check before I buy?
- Depth first. Measure from the wall to the counter edge, and remember the door swings out.
- Height under the cabinet. Every body here is under 12 in tall, so each leaves more than 6 in under a common 18 in gap (computed). That gap is a secondary-source figure, so measure yours.
- Space around it. Read your model's manual. The ones we read differ widely, as our clearance guide shows.
- Your plate. The Sharp's turntable is 10.6 in. Measure your biggest plate and any pizza pan.
- The circuit. A small body doesn't mean a small draw. Sharp lists 1500 W of consumption power.
- Landing space. NKBA's planning guidelines recommend at least 15 in of landing space near the handle side of a microwave. In a tiny kitchen, think about where a hot basket will go.
What mistakes should I avoid?
- Trusting "compact" in the title. Toshiba's 1.0 cu ft ML2-EC10SA is about as low as these models, while the 0.9 cu ft flat-tray Ninja Crispi Microwave is about 14.1 in tall as listed. Cubic feet don't predict outside size. See the size guide.
- Reading stated size as food space. Sharp says capacity is measured at maximum width, depth and height, and real food space is less.
- Buying a lookalike. A small air fryer toaster oven can't microwave. Look for a stated microwave wattage from the brand.
- Expecting basket-fryer results. We found no controlled test of a combo against a basket fryer. Combo versus basket air fryer has what is known.
Which combo is yours?
Question 1
Where will it go?
This decides how you buy.
What should I do next?
For most small kitchens, buy the Sharp SMC0985KS. Its size is on the brand's product sheet and it comes with a basket and pan. Take the BLACK+DECKER only if the extra depth saving decides the fit and you've checked the listing.
Can you spare about 2 in of depth and 1 in of width? The Toshiba ML2-EC10SA* gives you 1.0 cu ft, 1000 W and a 12.4 in turntable at almost the same height. It is our pick for most kitchens in the best combos. Not sure one appliance is right? See are combos worth it? or the combo basics. Fitting out a camper? See RV microwave air fryers.
Quick questions
What is the smallest microwave air fryer combo?
It depends on whose numbers you trust. By brand data, the smallest we could confirm is the Sharp SMC0985KS at 19.6 × 15.77 in. By listings alone, the BLACK+DECKER ES9P032NA shows 19.5 × 14.5 in, though a third-party summary says 15.55 in deep. The Commercial Chef CHMF9BG is listed as the narrowest and lowest at 19 in wide and 11.1 in tall. Check the listing before you rely on those.
What is the best compact microwave air fryer combo?
The Sharp SMC0985KS, because its size, watts and accessories come from Sharp's own product sheet. It has a 900 W microwave, 1450 W for air fry, and a dishwasher-safe basket. The weak points are a 10.6 in turntable and a 120 V, 20 A power source on the sheet, so check your circuit and the manual.
Is 0.9 cu ft big enough?
For one or two people and everyday reheating and snacks, often yes. For family trays, probably not. Sharp says real food space is less than the stated size. Its turntable is 10.6 in, against 12.4 in on Toshiba's 1.0 cu ft ML2-EC10SA. Measure your biggest plate and pan.
How much space do I need around a small combo?
It varies by model, and we haven't read manuals for the small models here. Don't assume one number. Panasonic's NN-CD87 manual asks for 6 in on top, 4 in behind and 2 in on each side. Breville's current instruction book asks for 12 in on top and 8 in from walls. Check your model's manual and never block the vents.
Do small combos have less microwave power?
Usually, yes. The 0.9 cu ft models here show 900 W, where several 1.0 cu ft models show 1000 W. Food can take a bit longer than a recipe written for a stronger microwave. If speed matters more than size, look at a 1.0 cu ft model with a low body.
