Ninja Crispi Microwave vs Crispi Glass Air Fryer: Which One Do You Need?

Buy the Ninja Crispi Microwave MW101 if you want one appliance to take over from your microwave. Buy a glass Crispi air fryer, the FN101 or AS101, if you're keeping your microwave and want to add air frying in a far smaller footprint. Only the MW101 can microwave.

The short version

Choose by what you are replacing. The MW101 is a real microwave with air fry, listed at about 20.3 × 17.5 × 14.1 in. The FN101 and AS101 are glass air fryers that can't microwave, each listed under 12 in wide. Their glass is microwave-safe, which only means it can go into a microwave you already own. Keeping your microwave? Take a glass air fryer.

What is on this page

The same word covers two kinds of appliance. Some people buy a glass air fryer expecting it to reheat soup. Others buy a large microwave when all they wanted was crisp fries. For the plain yes-or-no, see which Ninja Crispi has a microwave.

Singapore's SharkNinja pages give different watts and capacities for the air fryers, 1700 W for the FN101 and 2050 W for the AS101. Those are for another market, so don't compare them with the US figures. We couldn't read SharkNinja's US pages directly.

What are the big differences?

  • Microwaving. This one decides it. Only the MW101 has the part that does the microwaving. The glass air fryers only cook with hot air. So soup, drinks and quick defrosting stay with your microwave if you buy one of them.
  • Counter space. The MW101 takes up more than twice the counter of either glass air fryer. But a glass air fryer goes next to your microwave, while the MW101 replaces it. Our size guide shows how to measure.
  • Height and space around it. The only MW101 guide we could read is the UK edition. It asks for 11.81 in above and 5.9 in at the sides, and says not to put it inside a cabinet. UK and US versions differ, so these aren't confirmed US figures. See our clearance guide. We have no figures for the glass air fryers, so read their manuals.
  • Air fry power. The US release gives 1700 W for the MW101 and 1500 W for the FN101, in the footnote behind "frozen to crispy". That compares watts, not cooking. We found no controlled test between these models. The MW101's 40 % more usable surface is measured against a 0.9 cu ft turntable microwave, not against these air fryers.
  • Glass and cleanup. Ninja describes the MW101's glass basket as PFAS and PTFE free. That is Ninja's claim, and we haven't checked it, as our page on non-toxic claims explains. The UK guide says the MW101's glass dish is dishwasher safe and its crisper tray is hand-wash only. SharkNinja's Singapore page says the FN101's glassware and lids are dishwasher safe. The MW101 guide also says its glass isn't safe for an oven, stovetop or grill. Follow your own guide.
  • Price class. The MW101 sits in the premium class. The glass air fryers are smaller appliances, so compare listings on the day.

When should I take the MW101?

  • You're replacing a microwave and want one fewer appliance.
  • You want a flatbed floor rather than a turntable.
  • You have space above the counter, or no wall cabinet over the spot.

Our Ninja Crispi Microwave page covers size and claims in full.

When should I take a glass air fryer?

  • Your microwave works and you're happy to keep it.
  • You're short on counter depth, since both are listed under 14 in deep.
  • You like cooking and storing in the same glass containers.

Between the two, the Crispi Pro AS101* is listed with larger containers and a lower body, and the Crispi FN101* has fewer functions.

Other names can confuse too, such as the Ninja Combi SFP701, which can't microwave. See lookalikes that are not microwaves. Next step: for combos from all brands, see the best combos.

Quick questions

What is the difference between the Ninja Crispi Microwave and the Ninja Crispi air fryer?

The Crispi Microwave MW101 microwaves as well as air fries. The FN101 and AS101 glass air fryers only cook with hot air. They are also far smaller. If you want to reheat soup or defrost in the same appliance, only the MW101 can do that.

Can I use the Ninja Crispi air fryer glass in a microwave?

Yes, in a microwave you already own. SharkNinja's Singapore pages call the glass containers microwave-safe. On the FN101 page, it says the crisper plates are not, so take them out first. Check the manual for your own unit. None of this gives the air fryer a microwave function.

Does the Ninja Crispi Microwave crisp better than the glass air fryer?

We can't say. We found no controlled comparison. Ninja's frozen-to-crispy claim rests on a footnote comparing air fry wattage, 1700 W for the MW101 versus 1500 W for the FN101, not on a cooking test. A higher rating alone doesn't show crisper food.

Which Ninja Crispi is the biggest?

It depends on what you measure. The MW101 has the largest body and a 5.5 qt glass basket per Ninja. The AS101 is listed with a 6 qt container and a 2.5 qt container, and the FN101 with 4 qt and 6 cup containers. Compare your usual batch, not just the outer size.
