Best Over-the-Range Microwave With Air Fry: Four Models Compared
We can't name a proven best over-the-range microwave with air fry. We found no controlled comparison and have read no manual for these four. Start with the LG MHEC1737F, the only one with a brand product sheet we could read. GE's own page says the GE Profile PVM9179SRSS is no longer made.

The short version
There is no proven best. Start with the LG MHEC1737F for the clearest brand data: 1.7 cu ft, 950 W microwave, 300 CFM (the vent fan's airflow) and a 30 in cabinet opening, says LG's builder sheet. Take the BLACK+DECKER for the shallowest listed body or the Frigidaire for the biggest listed inside. Check any GE Profile PVM9179SRSS offer closely, since GE says it is no longer made.
We haven't installed or cooked in any of these. Here is what each listing says, where the brand confirms it, and what it means for your opening. Our over-the-range buying guide covers venting, reach and the wall. This page only compares the four.

How do the four compare?
These are options to check, not picks. Make sure each is in stock, because some showed no price when we looked.

The LG row uses LG's builder sheet, because its listing shows an obviously wrong height. The last column assumes the 30 in from cooktop to cabinet that GE and LG use. Plan with your own instructions.

Microwave power: LG says 950 W and the BLACK+DECKER listing says 900 W. The GE listing labels its 950 W as power consumption, so check it. The Frigidaire listing shows 1600 W without saying what it measures, so we don't count it as microwave power. See over-the-range dimensions for how depth works, and wattage explained.
What do we know about each?
LG. Its builder sheet is the most complete document we could read, though it dates from 2022. It gives 1.7 cu ft, a 950 W microwave, 1,550 W of convection power (the hot-air oven mode), 300 CFM, a 13.5 in turntable and a 30 × 13 in cut-out. It also lists a 14 A minimum circuit rating, 1 year of parts and labor, and 10 years on the part that does the microwaving. Check current terms with the seller. The other three rest on listings, plus one line from GE's page.
GE Profile. GE's page says this model is no longer made, and the page we read showed it out of stock. We know nothing about the condition or warranty of units sold elsewhere, so ask first. The listing also has errors, including a 50 hertz frequency, which is not a US figure. Go by GE's page, so plan with 16.5 in, not 16.3 in. Our GE overview covers the brand's other models.
BLACK+DECKER. The BLACK+DECKER is the shallowest at 13.9 in listed, about 2.5 in less than LG's 16 3/8 in (computed). Its inside is also the smallest here, at 1.5 cu ft. Confirm the depth with the seller.
Frigidaire. The biggest listed inside and turntable: 1.9 cu ft and 14.19 in. You pay in height. At 17.25 in tall, it leaves about 12.75 in below (computed), roughly 3/4 in less than the LG. Stand at your cooktop and picture your biggest pot.
What about venting, power and mounting?
- Venting. LG's sheet lists roof, wall and room venting.
- Power. GE says its over-the-range models should always be on their own circuit, 120 V and grounded, with a 15 or 20 amp breaker or time-delay fuse. Treat that as a starting point for other brands, then check your model's instructions. Leave wiring changes to an electrician.
- Mounting. LG's sheet says the upper cabinet and rear wall must hold 150 lb plus what you store in them. The maximum cabinet depth is 13 in, and it can't go on an island or peninsula cabinet.
- Side space. GE's support page says these units need no space on the sides or back, but all current GE models need 1/2 in on the hinge side next to a deep cabinet or wall, so the door can open.
Is there a pick you left out?
Good Housekeeping's April 2026 roundup names a KitchenAid over-the-range convection model as its pick, and says this type should usually be installed by a professional. The copy we read gives no test details, and we have no Amazon listing for it. Ask a dealer.
Which should I take?
- LG MHEC1737F if you want to start from the brand's numbers, and your opening matches its 30 in width and 13 in cabinet depth.
- BLACK+DECKER EC942K6CE-SS if depth decides, and the seller confirms 13.9 in.
- Frigidaire Professional if inside size matters most and you have checked the space above your cooktop.
- GE Profile PVM9179SRSS only after asking about stock, condition and warranty.
- A dealer if you need new wiring, a new duct or an installer.

Quick questions
What is the best over-the-range microwave with air fryer?
We can't prove one. We found no controlled comparison, and we have not read a manual for any of the four here. LG's builder sheet makes the LG MHEC1737F the best documented, which is not the same as the best cooker. Ask a dealer to check your opening too.
Is the GE Profile PVM9179SRSS still made?
GE's product page says it is no longer made. A listing or dealer may still have stock, so ask about the warranty and whether the unit is new. A newer model may exist, but we didn't confirm one. Check the opening and mounting plate before assuming a newer model fits the same way.
Which one is the shallowest?
The BLACK+DECKER EC942K6CE-SS, listed at 13.9 in deep. LG's sheet says 16 3/8 in and the Frigidaire is listed at 16.5 in. The BLACK+DECKER number comes from the listing only, so confirm it and ask whether it includes the handle and door.
How much space is left above my cooktop?
GE and LG both work from 30 in between the cooktop and the cabinet above. Subtract the unit's height. A 16.5 in tall model leaves about 13.5 in, and a 17.25 in tall one about 12.75 in (computed). Follow the instructions for your exact model.
Should I buy from a dealer instead of Amazon?
Often, yes. This appliance is mounted, vented and wired, and a dealer can talk through delivery, removing the old one and installation. Amazon can work if you are swapping a unit yourself and have confirmed the model. Read the installation instructions first.
